Jim Caldwell, the former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator and former Indianapolis Colts head coach, will be the next head coach of the Detroit Lions.

The team reporter, Tim Twentyman, made it official shortly after ESPN's Adam Schefter reported it on Tuesday afternoon.

So the next step, well after holding the official press conference, is to fill out the coaching staff.

Early reports have Caldwell bringing a defensive coordinator to Detroit from Baltimore.

Austin has been with the Ravens for three seasons, and was a defensive assistant at the University of Michigan from 1999 to 2002.

On the other side of the ball, Caldwell is linked to current Rutgers offensive coordinator Ron Prince.

Prince has been primarily an offensive line coach in both college and the NFL.  He was also the head coach at Kansas State, in between Bill Snyder's two terms with the Wildcats.  There has been speculation about Prince's position, ranging from offensive coordinator to assistant head coach with the Lions.

Many fans and media members think that Jeremiah Washburn, the offensive line coach under Jim Schwartz, should return because of the surprising play of the offensive line this season.

We will keep updating this page as more rumors come out.
