Interim manager for the Seattle Mariners Robby Thompson is filling in for Eric Wedge, after he suffered a mild stroke. The team has been on quite a roll, and are actually a half game up on the Los Angeles Angels. But last night's game against the Boston Red Sox might be one to forget for Thompson and his bullpen.
Leading by five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Red Sox staged an incredible comeback, and won in walk-off fashion. During the inning, Thompson went to make a pitching change and accidentally pointed to the pen with the wrong hand. Instead of bringing in right-handed Yoervis Medina, he had to bring in lefty Oliver Perez.
Perez gave up two hits, before Medina was eventually brought in and gave up two more hits, including the walk-off hit by Daniel Nava. Just another case of a stupid rule possibly changing the pennant race in baseball...
