[PODCAST] Torii Hunter Rumor
I have said the Tigers first priority should be to find an everday productive corner outfielder who Jim Leyland can count on every day that would preferrably hit #2 in this lineup. Not easy, but the answer is obvious. The Tigers entertained former Angels and Twins outfielder Torii Hunter this week; a guy who fits "exactly" what this team needs. He is a nine time gold glover, who can play any outfield position (has played center and right, but could easily play left); he fits the #2 hole perfectly (batted .343 there last season); he's reliable, playing 150 games every year, and he's a steady clubhouse guy who can give this team another strong voice. This team is built to win now with guys like Verlander, Scherzer, Cabrera, Jackson and Fielder in the prime of their careers. Hunter may be 37, but he keeps himself in great shape and we're seeing more and more older players excelling late in their careers: guys like Jeter, Manning and Woodson. By signing Hunter, it also allows the Tigers to nurture it's young outfield talents like Garcia and Castallenos and not rush them too the big leagues. The Tigers need a guy like this-he's the final piece to what I think will be a championship puzzle.
