At 6 AM on July 11, 1994, Sports Radio 1130 WDFN The Fan became Detroit’s first ALL SPORTS RADIO STATION. Immediately, WDFN became the long-awaited outlet for the Detroit sports fan to get an objective opinion on sports while having his say as well.
WDFN has continued to provide Detroit sports fans with the “Breaking Sports First, Guaranteed,” while maintaining its status as the only station in Detroit, “Not Bought and Paid For By The Home Team.” Additionally, listeners have come to think of Sports Radio 1130 WDFN as “The Voice of The Fan.” These characteristics have been and always will be THE primary goal of WDFN.
Since its launch, WDFN has welcomed Grant Hill to The Motor City and then watched him leave, followed the Detroit Red Wings to consecutive Stanley Cups in ’97 & ’98 and another one in 2002, fielded “Get Rid of Wayne” calls in ’94, ’95 and ’96 and welcomed Juan Gonzalez to Comerica Park, listened to him complain, and then held the door for him as he left.
While the primary focus of WDFN is sports, air personalities have been known to stray off the topic to have a little fun. For example, Sean Baligian features “Pick Three” and Detroit’s #1 sports show, Stoney and Wojo, gave their fans the world famous “Stoney and Wojo Invitational.” Sports Radio 1130 WDFN The Fan is not just sports, it’s entertainment for men, 24 hours a day.
